Destination Event Planning
In 2015 I got certified as a deep-sea scuba diver and ever since that course, I have worked on learning how to be a destination event planner. Notice how I say event planner and not just wedding. I love planning all types of family events including memorials, birthdays, anniversaries and retirement parties. Heck, I would even love the opportunity to plan a family reunion with an entire week or weekend of events!
Like any other goal where you have little experience, you must start somewhere so I offered to help plan a few Idaho & Colorado weddings for a discount just so I could get my feet dirty. I then booked a young couple who wanted the look and feel of a tropical destination wedding but could not leave the county as they were coming from university in Germany to live in Seattle and needed to keep within the states for Visa.
I also got the opportunity to attend a FAM tour of 21 resorts in Cancun and Cozumel in May 2018 where I learned to pay attention to the smell of the rooms, the pressure of the water, the firmness of the beds and the amenities at all the big resorts and spas. I can’t say I didn’t enjoyed myself and the company of Anywhere But Here Travel (now my exclusive travel agents). We stuffed our faces at 5 course dinners, buffets, sweet shops, all-you-can-eats and cafes.
I feel grateful for the opportunities that I have experienced so far and I have learned a lot from great professionals like Platinum Event Rentals and Café Au Love in San Diego, Couer’d Alane Resort and Sun Mountain Lodge in Colorado. I look forward to all the future opportunities I will get to plan events in other states and other countries.
~ Cheers to travel, food and family!
